Umberto Eco: moved with ease from medieval aesthetics to contemporary cartoon strips. Umberto Ecowho has died aged 84, was a polymath of towering cleverness. Linguistically technical, they were at once impishly humorous and robustly intellectual.
Success in book publishing is often said to depend on "word of mouth. So it was for Lewis Carroll, disappointed by sales of 13, copies of his magnum opus, Sylvie and Bruno: "I am quite satisfied that its small sale is not at all due to insufficient advertising," he wrote his publisher, Macmillan, adding hopefully that perhaps "it will get known by people recommending it to their friends. Like others cursed by extraordinary success his younger contemporary Arthur Conan Doyle, for example, whose public simply would not allow him to kill off Sherlock HolmesCarroll could never satisfy an audience that wanted only another Alice.
Busting loose from the pages of his long-running webcomic www. Join Bruno, his microdragon sidekick Fiona, and a varied cast of characters who populate Rothland in a quest for fortune and adventure as some of the best comics on the web become some of the funniest comics in self-publishing. In addition to a great lineup of Bruno the Bandit stories, Volume One of "Brutal Blade" features all-new cover art by legendary Conan artist Ernie Chan and comments from equally legendary comics writer Roy Thomas.
Wow, those are some damn fine-looking newspaper strips. Thanks for posting these, as I'd never seen them before none of the newspapers where I grew up carried these. Too bad the reprint quality leaves something to be desired.
I miss seeing a well illustrated newspaper strip with a different approach to visual storytelling. I personally would love to see a sample of the World's Greatest Superheroes strip sometime for a sample of the Justice League in comic strip form. All comic strips are pretty well dead now.

This is why I frickin' love Sacha Baron Cohen so damn much. Not only is he able to just come up with this character and fool countless Americans to begin with, but he's able to keep up the act all the way until its actual release. Okay, so Bruno doesn't completely punk Conan, he's obviously in on the joke, but I think Conan didn't even see some of this coming.
